Bona Vacantia

‘Bona Vacantia’ means vacant goods and is the name given to ownerless property, which by law passes to the Crown.

The Treasury Solicitor acts for the Crown to administer the estates of people who die intestate (without a Will) and without known kin (entitled blood relatives) and collect the assets of dissolved companies and other various ownerless goods in England and Wales.

Referring a case to GLD can be time consuming and ultimately still leave you to deal with the relatives once they are found.  This can often be a lengthy process.

Our dedicated Case Managers will aim to identify and locate next of kin within 48 hours of referral and assist in proving their entitlement.  This will then enable for the application for Letters of Administration to deal with the assets  and ensure funeral payments, care fees and other liabilities can be repaid in a timely fashion.

Our team can also assist in the search to confirm if there is a valid Will.
